NSC News | Thursday, 17 September 2020 |
Two opportunities to find out more: enjoy and share our video and join our webinar 23 September, co-hosted by NSC and Friends of the ATC.
See below for details.
‘Agroecology is a revolution! …we are killing the Earth…the most urgent task we face is the search for ways to protect it. ’ Marlen Sanchez, director of Latin America Agroecology Institute, Nicaragua
The Nicaraguan Rural Workers Association (ATC) co-ordinates coordinates one of the nine Latin America Agroecology Institutes (IALA) across the continent. They offer degrees in agroecology for young people that incorporate political, ideological and technical training.
The IALA Ulim Ulew (land of corn) in Nicaragua was set up in 2018 for young people from Central American and Caribbean organisations of the global peasant movement La Via Campesina.
The first intake of 22 students between the ages of 18 – 30 completed their two year course in November 2019 and have returned to their home communities.
Enjoy and share our seven minutes video, the testimony of Migdalia Cruz, one the graduates.
Migdalia describes the holistic way in which the course, based on popular education, integrates political, social and technical training. She also talks about her pride in being a campesina and how she has applied what she learnt within her family and community.
“The task we have is to recover the land and our identity as young campesinxs, to have our own land to grow food in a holistic, diversified way….I want to be someone who lives their dreams.” Migdalia Cruz
